European Fiscal Governance: A Necessary Reform?

  • Instituto Cervantes 140 Avenue Louise Bruxelles, Bruxelles, 1000 Bélgica (map)

Reforming the European Union's fiscal rules seems to be crucial in order to ensure more sustainable and inclusive economic growth, strengthen economic governance, and provide adequate fiscal space to EU member states. This is particularly important in light of new challenges arising from long-term trends such as digital transformation and climate change, as well as the need to recover from the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. This session will focus on exploring avenues for fiscal rules reform. We would discuss the balance between fiscal discipline and macroeconomic stabilization and the impact of fiscal rules on investment and structural reforms. We would also consider the implications of these changes for the overall functioning of the Economic and Monetary Union and the single market.

Join us at the Instituto Cervantes in Brussels (Metro: lines 2 y 6 - Louise/Louiza station;
Tram: 81-92-93-94).

Light refreshments will be served from 12:30 - 13:00.
